It is 33 km from Vagamon,and 3 km From National Highway 220. (Kottayam Kumily Road). This area provides a bird's eye view of an endless stretch of green forest land and low-lying areas. During the pilgrimage season one can see the light of the famous Sabarimala Temple from here. It is 33 Km from vagamon.
Panchalimedu is Situated at an attitude of about 2500 feet above sea level, Panchali Medu is an adventurer's slot. According to legends, 'Pandavas' (heroes of the epic – Mahabharata) stayed here, during their exile from their Kingdom. Here, a small Temple with a pond (in which Panchali - wife of the Pandavas, used to bathe as the legend goes) can also be seen. It is 25 Km from vagamon.
Gavi is inside the Periyar Tiger reserve, and can be reached by car. Forest tent camping is available from November through March. The rough journey to Gavi may better be made on a sturdy vehicle like jeep which are available on hire. Entry passes must be obtained from the Forest Check Post enroute at Vallakkadavu.
